Leon Simson, an experienced Oregon corporate and business restructuring attorney, has joined the business department of Tonkon Torp LLP.

Simson has practiced law in Portland for 30 years and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America continuously since 1987. He has been a partner at Ball Janik LLP since 1989.

“We are delighted to welcome a lawyer of Leon Simson’s caliber to our firm,” said Michael M. Morgan, chairman of Tonkon Torp’s managing board. “With his many years of experience in complex corporate matters and his business acumen and client advisory skills, Leon brings additional depth to our business department.”

Simson’s practice focuses on corporate law, including finance, license agreements, acquisitions and divestitures and corporate governance matters. He also has significant experience in the reorganization and restructuring of financially troubled businesses.

Simson earned his law degree Order of the Coif from the University of Wisconsin, where he was editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. He holds a B.A. in government from Oberlin College and an M.A. in political science from the University of Wisconsin. Before entering private practice, Simson served as law clerk to the Oregon Supreme Court from 1975 to 1976.

“It was a great privilege to spend this portion of my career at Ball Janik. I had the opportunity to work with a talented group of lawyers for whom I have tremendous respect, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge,” says Simson. “By affiliating with Tonkon Torp, I have the opportunity to start a new phase of my career working alongside some of the best corporate attorneys in the Northwest.”
