Tonkon Torp Adds Robert Carey to Employment Law Team

Veteran employment law litigator Robert L. Carey has joined Tonkon Torp LLP as head of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group.

Carey, who has nearly 20 years of litigation experience, represents businesses and executives on a variety of employment law issues and in complex commercial litigation. His work focuses on litigation involving discrimination and wrongful discharge complaints, enforcement of non-competition agreements and departing employee disputes.

“Bob Carey’s success and experience as a labor and employment litigator make him a great fit with our own accomplished team, and will reinforce Tonkon Torp’s position as a leader in labor and employment law,” said Michael M. Morgan, chair of the firm’s managing board.

Carey served as a trial and appellate attorney in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1987 to 1993. He was a litigation partner at Lane Powell until 1998, when he became a founding partner of the employment law firm of Barran Liebman LLP.

Carey earned his B.A. from Harvard University and his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law. He is admitted to practice in Oregon, Washington and the District of Columbia. In addition to serving on a variety of professional panels and committees for the Oregon State Bar, Multnomah Bar Association and American Bar Association, Carey is a member of the Business and Economy Committee of the Oregon Business Association and serves on the Ambassador Board for the Children’s Cancer Association.

“I’m thrilled to join the outstanding group of lawyers at Tonkon Torp,” said Carey. “The firm’s sophisticated business practice and broad range of expertise will significantly enhance the services I can offer my clients.”
