Part of living in this community is being supportive of the needs of people in the community.

Tonkon Torp’s involvement with Human Solutions began with the introduction of litigator Ned Perry to the nonprofit’s Executive Director, Jean DeMaster. A mutual friend thought Ned could help with some legal issues. That began his pro bono involvement with the organization and his eventual position on the board. Today, litigator Jon Stride serves on the Human Solutions board and provides pro bono counsel when called upon.
Formed in 1988, Human Solutions helps low-income and homeless families and individuals gain self-sufficiency by providing affordable housing, family support services, job readiness training and economic development opportunities. Human Solutions is the largest non-profit developer of affordable housing in Mid and East Multnomah County, Oregon, with 18 complexes containing 701 units of housing.
“Part of living in this community is being supportive of the needs of people in the community,” says Ned. “Changing demographics and gentrification has had the unintended consequence of pushing poverty into East Multnomah County, where social services are not as readily available. By delivering social services to residents at their housing sites, Human Solutions is doing a great job meeting a critical need effectively.”
