During law school, Tyler worked as a summer associate for Tonkon Torp in 2014 and as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Michael McShane, United States District Judge for the District of Oregon. He worked as a research assistant for two years doing research on commercial law and securities regulation topics. Tyler also worked as a law clerk in the Civil Litigation Section of the Oregon Department of Justice, Trial Division. He was the recipient of the James T. Landye Scholarship, Mary Russell Scholarship, Mary Lawrence Scholarship — awarded to the top ranked student in the class — Francis Cheney Scholarship, Culbertson Scholarship, and the Oregon State Bar Business Law Section's Outstanding Corporate Law Student Scholarship.
Tyler worked with the University of Oregon’s Family Housing department to organize community events designed to help students integrate learning into lifestyle practices.
Tyler was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. After finishing college, he and his wife Sara travelled through Europe while they lived in Nottingham England, where Tyler completed his graduate studies in philosophy of religion. Before moving to Oregon, Tyler and Sara lived in southern California where Tyler learned to surf in his free time while working at a tissue culture lab. Tyler and his wife now live in Portland with their three young sons.
