    Al Kennedy passed away in December 2022. Through his four decades at Tonkon Torp, his positive impact on the firm and his clients was profound. Al was an exceptional lawyer, partner, mentor, and friend.

    Al’s practice focused on complex corporate reorganizations and restructuring. He had expertise in all areas of commercial, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights law. He represented creditors (including a variety of financial institutions) and debtors in bankruptcy proceedings, commercial litigation, and real estate foreclosures before both federal and state courts. He also had extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of out-of-court workouts and commercial loan transactions.

    Al joined Tonkon Torp in 1984, becoming a partner in 1986.

    Barbee was an appellate lawyer for over 30 years. Prior to his retirement, he earned an outstanding reputation and record in Oregon, prosecuting or defending appeals involving antitrust law, patents, federal energy regulation, corporate law, contracts, and many other subjects.

    Rick’s practice covered securities, shareholders rights, defense of accountants, environmental, and natural resources litigation. He tried over 200 cases and 75 injunctive proceedings.

  • Janet Neuman Retired Senior Counsel

    Jan retired in 2023 as Senior Counsel with Tonkon Torp’s Water Law and Environmental & Natural Resources practice groups. She represented clients in a variety of water and natural-resource-related matters, including obtaining, transferring, and protecting water rights for both groundwater and surface water. Jan is considered one of the foremost water law specialists in Oregon and is nationally recognized as a water law scholar.

  • Darcy Norville Retired Partner

    During her impressive tenure at Tonkon Torp, Darcy was the first female attorney to serve as firm Managing Partner, during which time she helped kick-start and modernize the firm’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion efforts, launched a successful firm-wide rebrand, and developed a vital new strategic plan to guide the firm’s future development. Darcy’s practice focused on general business and corporate law. She worked with clients in the insurance and financial services industry on a wide variety of matters, including regulatory compliance, privacy laws, contract drafting, and general corporate matters. Darcy’s practice also emphasized executive compensation, ERISA, and employee benefits counsel.

  • Leon Simson Of Counsel (Deceased)

    Leon was a member of Tonkon Torp’s Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurial Services, and Mergers & Acquisitions practice groups. He was an experienced corporate and business restructuring attorney. Leon represented corporate clients in a wide range of business matters, including finance, license agreements, customer and supplier issues, equipment purchasing and financing, acquisitions and divestitures, and shareholder and director issues.

    He represented purchasers in several transactions in which businesses were purchased from various debtors. The purchased businesses included four steel foundries, an electric power plant, a pulp mill, an RV manufacturer, a cab company, and two printing companies.

    Leon’s extensive experience also included advising clients in complex, court-supervised bankruptcy cases, as well as out-of-court restructurings and workouts.

    From 1975-76 he served as a law clerk to the Oregon Supreme Court. Leon was listed in The Best Lawyers in America from 1987-2020 for his work in bankruptcy and from 2013-2020 for his work in corporate law.
