Form I-94s to Go Paperless (If Traveling by Air or Sea)

Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) started phasing in a "paperless" Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record for foreign nationals entering the United States in nonimmigrant status by air or sea. Foreign nationals traveling by land will continue to receive a paper Form I-94.

The Portland International Airport is scheduled to go paperless as of May 14, 2013. Instead of issuing paper Forms I-94, CBP will create the Form I-94 record electronically. On entry, foreign nationals will be provided a CBP admission stamp in their passport or other applicable travel document, which will show the date of admission, class of admission, and authorized period of stay. Foreign nationals needing a copy of their Form I-94 for verification of registration, admission status or employment authorization, may obtain a paper version of the Form I-94 by retrieving it from CBP's I-94 website following admission into the United States at: www.cbp.gov/I94.
