Tonkon Holds Seminar for Women Business Leaders

Tonkon Torp co-sponsored and presented at a seminar for women business leaders. The program featured a panel of three sets of local women business owners and their professional service providers, all of whom shared their experiences with the joys and challenges of starting, building, and growing a company.

The seminar was moderated by Tonkon Torp attorney Gwen Griffith, who drew upon her practical understanding of business needs and expertise in business and tax law issues to guide a lively discussion. Tonkon Torp attorney Sherrill Corbett and her fellow panelists spoke on the legal, practical, and even the emotional issues faced by women business owners at every stage of company development. Panelists frankly discussed their successes and challenges in getting new businesses off to the right start, charting the right course for continued growth, and keeping their companies focused on their true missions.

Corbett is chair of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice group and a member of Tonkon Torp’s managing board. She works with women-owned or run businesses and counsels clients on buying and selling businesses, and forming joint ventures. She is also a member of the Corporate Finance practice group, advising clients on bank financings, private placements, and public offerings. Griffith chairs Tonkon Torp’s Taxation practice group. Her practice includes matters related to partnership and corporate taxation as well as estate planning. She has been recognized for a number of years by Best Lawyers in America for tax law and trusts and estates.
