Environmental attorney Max Miller, Jr. spoke at the 22nd annual Superfund in Oregon Conference, which took place in Portland on October 21. The conference covered topics related to federal and state environmental cleanup laws, programs, policies, and projects. It also featured case studies on regional site specific issues, including the Portland Harbor Superfund Site, City of St. Helens Central Waterfront Redevelopment, and Astoria Marine Construction cleanup.
Max has been involved in a number of proceedings designed to allocate the cost of hazardous waste cleanups, including at Portland Harbor. He co-presented a session, “Determining Who Pays for Environmental Remediation: Legal and Technical Issues,” with Integral Consulting Inc. principal hydrogeologist David Livermore, R.G., L.H.G.. They spoke on identification of responsible parties, allocation of liability, and challenges associated with contaminated sediment cleanup. They also shared allocation strategies, approaches, and tools.
Max is a partner at Tonkon Torp LLP, and a founding member of its Environmental & Natural Resources practice group. His experience includes both transactional counsel and litigation representation for clients in manufacturing, renewable energy, real estate development, forestry, and forest products.
