Tonkon Torp Helps Oregon Invest in Oregon

Underneath Tonkon Torp's Financial Services banner, a specialized Investment Management Practice represents institutional, governmental, and individual investors to advise on investments in funds such as hedge funds, real estate funds, venture capital funds, and private equity funds.
For instance, in recent years, the State of Oregon has turned to Tonkon Torp's expertise to provide legal counsel in connection with its investments. Business attorneys David Forman and Owen Blank, and tax attorney Gwen Griffith each hold an appointment as Special Assistant Attorney General for the state. In this role, they are tasked with representing the state in connection with investments in private equity and venture capital funds. They provide a full slate of services that include negotiating fund documents and performing legal due diligence while working with both the Attorney General's office and the investment arm of the Oregon State Treasurer's office.
These three attorneys (along with tax attorney Michael Millender and now-retired Tonkon Torp attorney Ingolf Noto) have worked on investments ranging in size from $500,000 to $100 million. Investments have been made by the Oregon Growth Board with funds that focus on growing the Oregon economy from within – including the Portland SEED Fund, the Women's Venture Capital Fund, and Northwest Technology Ventures. This group also works with the Treasurer's office to invest Oregon PERS funds with private equity funds.
