Stimson Lumber's Own Private Idaho
Stimson Lumber Company shifted its strategic focus to the inland Northwest with its initial expansion into Montana in 1993, drawing on longtime counsel Tonkon Torp's expertise to handle the deal. Since then, Stimson has been adding to its inland operations in Eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana.
In late 2000, Tonkon Torp helped Stimson purchase 90,000 acres of timberland, a Coeur D'Alene, Idaho office building, and three mills from Idaho Forest Industries. Permit negotiations with local governments were complicated by the fact that one of the mills is located in the heart of Coeur D'Alene, which is emerging as a tourist district rather than an industrial zone. For the sellers, long time Idahoans, maintaining living wage jobs in the community was important.
Tonkon Torp lawyers understand the business, civic and emotional concerns of our clients and their employees and were able to get the deal done to the satisfaction of all concerned.
