Bringing Affordable Housing to Low-Income Families

Having a home to call your own is a dream that is often unattainable for many low-income families. The Rogue Valley Community Development Corporation (RVCDC) works to make this dream a reality by creating affordable housing for low-income families throughout Oregon. When the organization wanted to build nine townhouses in Ashland, Oregon, it needed help navigating the city's zoning and development laws. The RVCDC turned to the lawyers at Tonkon Torp for assistance with this project, the first of its kind in Oregon.

Our real estate and land use practice group provided assistance on a pro-bono basis while working in conjunction with the Community Development Law Center. We obtained several land use variances that were needed to make the housing affordable to low-income families. Thanks to the assistance of Tonkon Torp's attorneys, nine low-income families were able to receive no-interest loans from the federal government and move into brand new townhouses in Ashland, Oregon.
