Training and DevelopmentMany firms say they provide new attorneys with early responsibilities and client contact. We really do. Litigation associates have tried and arbitrated cases during their first year of practice. Likewise, beginning business associates have taken the lead in various transactions. We recognize, however, that new associates vary in their skill and self-confidence levels, and thus we encourage each associate to work with a partner/mentor and set the pace of his or her own professional development.
All new business associates participate in seminars on basic corporate law and business transaction topics. Summer associates often attend these programs. Summer associates also receive ongoing informal training through feedback of their work product as well as participation in meetings, negotiations and court proceedings. In addition, summer associates are invited to attend all practice group and associate meetings, providing an un-retouched picture of day-to-day associate life at Tonkon Torp.
