Max is chair of the firm's Environmental and Natural Resources Practice Group.

 

His experience includes both transactional counsel and litigation representation. Using his extensive knowledge in environmental, natural resources, energy and land-use law, he helps businesses resolve disputes regarding federal, state and local regulations. His clients’ industries include manufacturing, renewable energy, forestry and forest products.

 

Max regularly works with regulatory agencies in several states to address complex hazardous waste and air and water pollution matters. His practice background includes:

 

  • Purchase, sale, and remediation of environmentally impacted industrial properties.
  • Environmental agency claims, agency enforced remedial and removal actions under Superfund and RCRA and voluntary clean ups.
  • Private cost recovery lawsuits and citizen suits.

Whether representing clients in a Superfund clean-up matter or organizing colleagues to join him in clearing invasive ivy from Tryon Creek State Park, Max walks the talk as an environmental lawyer and advocate. The Oregon State Bar honored him with its Leadership in Sustainability award for moving the legal profession to embrace sustainability. Also committed to supporting the arts/arts education, Max earned the 2011 Multnomah County Volunteer Award for his service on the Regional Arts and Culture Council Board and the Right Brain Initiative. He has also served as Chair of Business for Culture & The Arts and with MetroArts, Inc.
