2014-15 Tonkon Torp Scholarship Recipient Announced

July 22, 2015
Gabe Hinman, a third-year student at Lewis & Clark Law School, is the recipient of the annual Moe M. Tonkon and Frederick Torp Scholarship for 2014-15. Lewis and Clark Law School Dean Jennifer Johnson and Associate Dean Martha Spence selected Hinman as the recipient based upon his academic achievement during his law school career.

Hinman, who expressed his appreciation for the scholarship’s impact on reducing his financial burden, is ranked second in his class and is expected to graduate in May 2016. Beginning in Fall Semester 2015, he will work for the Earthrise environmental law clinic and as a student director of the Northwest Environmental Defense Center. He will also be associate editor for the Lewis & Clark Environmental Law Review. Hinman graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.

The Moe M. Tonkon and Frederick Torp Scholarship encourages the development of young attorneys who demonstrate exceptional aptitude for the law and professional promise. Tonkon Torp established the annual scholarship in 1987 in memory of founding partner Moe Tonkon, who was a 1928 alumnus of Lewis & Clark Law School (formerly Northwestern School of Law). In 2003, the firm enhanced the scholarship to also honor co-founder Frederick Torp, who died that year.
